Private George Cock; NER Magazine 1917 page 3

On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 31674 Private George Cock, serving with the Durham Light Infantry who died 07/10/1916.

George Cock was a native of Doddington in the Cheviots, but at the time of enlisting he was employed on the NER at West Hartlepool Docks. Before coming to Hartlepool a few years before, he worked as groom in his native place where, according to a local paper, his forefathers had lived from time immemorial.

He was killed in action on August the 7th 1916. Age 35.
