George Hepinstall was the eldest son of the late George Hepinstall, of Southwick-on-Wear, Riveter, and his wife, Mary Ellen (13 Brangham Street. Southwick-on-Wear) daughter of John Leach of Southwick.
He was born at Southwick on the 15th January 1894, educated at Southwick Board School and was employed at the Sunderland Bottle Works.
George enlisted on the 24th August 1914 and was trained at Grantham.
He was killed in action at the Dardanelles on the 21st August 1915. He was unmarried. The same day his great friend and school fellow J. C. Robinson, with whom he had been brought up, enlisted, and gone to the front, was killed at Chocolate Hill.
