In Warlencourt British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 4992 Private J. Foster, serving with the Durham Light Infantry who died 05/11/1916.

Heslop’s Local Advertiser 15/05/1917 reports:

Private Joseph Foster, D.L.I., missing since Nov. 5th 1916, now reported killed on that date, aged 20 years. Son of Thomas and Frances Foster, 7 Third Street, Wardley Colliery.

Joseph Foster is remembered at Wardley on W97.01 and W97.02
