Brenda Mcmahon has submitted the following:-

Edwin the eldest child was born (c) 1893 at Nancott, Flintshire the son of Edwin (pattern maker) and Elizabeth Jane (nee Morrison). The couple had 7 children but a daughter, Ann Gwendoline, died as a baby in 1897. His siblings were Norman (coal putter), Albert (apprentice fitter), Ann, Percy, May and Gwendoline. Edwin was an apprentice pattern maker like his father. The family were able to afford a servant.

He married Isabella about 1910/1911.

Edwin attended the Wesleyan Methodist church.

He was employed by Clarke Chapman at the Gateshead works.

Edwin enlisted into the army at Newcastle and was sent to France on 19 April 1915. Within weeks he was wounded and sent home for treatment. He died in the Victoria Hospital, Netley on 6 May 1915 from wounds received in action.

Isabella was living at 83, Back Durham Road, Low Fell.

Medals :- 1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal.

Edwin Humphreys is remembered at Low Fell on L61.05, also at L61.02, L61.03, and at Gateshead in G39.004 page 27, on G39.06, and G39.127
