Woolard, J.G., Pte., 1919
In St.James's Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave of 105701 Private John George Woolard, serving with The King's (Liverpool Regiment) who died 11/10/1919.

The Auckland and County Chronicle 16/10/1919 reports:

“Death of only remaining son.
Great sympathy is being expressed with Mrs. Woolard, of Back Church Street, who has lost her only remaining son whilst on service in the Army. Three years ago her youngest son died from wounds received in action in France, (Thomas William ) and her only surviving son, John George Woolard, 9th West Yorks., died on Saturday at the Military Hospital, Aldershot, from the after effects of malaria fever, at the age of 33 years. Previous to enlistment he was in the employ of Messrs. Davidson and Sons, contractors, Coundon. The interment will take place at Coundon Churchyard on Friday.”

He is remembered at Coundon on C117.01
