In Contalmaison Chateau Cemetery, Somme, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 12059 Private Archibald Ford, serving with the 10th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 25/09/1916.

Archibald Ford was born on the 8th January 1895, at Guide Post, Choppington, to parents, James and Margaret, being baptised on the 24th February 1895 at St. Bede’s Roman Catholic Church. In 1901 Archibald lived with his family at Guide Post, his father, James was a Coal Miner, aged 42.

On the 1911 census, they are living at Gordon Street, Guide Post, Archibald, now aged 16, was working as a Brick Labourer, living with his parents, James and Margaret, as well as siblings, Jane Mary, Hannah and James.

Before enlistment, he was employed at Barrington “H” Pit.

Archibald enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers, being assigned to the 10th Battalion, and given the service number 12059. Arriving in France on the 25th August 1915.

Private Archibald Ford, died of wounds on the 25th September 1916, at the 69th Field Ambulance, during the Battle of the Somme. He was buried at Contalmaison Chateau Cemetery, in France.

His brother in law William Barnett also died in WW1.

ROLL OF HONOUR
FORD.- In loving memory of Archibald, the dearly beloved son of James and Margaret Ann Ford, of Guide Post, who was killed in action on September 25th, 1916, aged 21 years.-(Deeply mourned and sadly missed by his loving father, mother, sisters and brother.)
