In Holy Trinity Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 2217 Private Edward Liddle serving with the Northern Cyclist Battalion who died 02/01/1917.

The headstone reads:-

died June 30th 1908

who died Jan. 2nd 1917
aged 31 years

Also Dorothy Ann Liddle
who died Sept. 5th 1937
aged 77 years

Edward Liddle was the son of Mr and Mrs Liddle of 10 Vicarage Terrace, Murton, Co Durham.

Soldiers Died in the Great War says that he was serving with the 1/4th Ban (Territorials) Northumberland Fusiliers.  His service number was the same.

Edward Liddle is remembered at Murton on M47.01, M47.02 and M47.06
