Unveiled 4th October 2017 at 10.00 am by children from Hesleden Primary School;
dedicated by Rev. Susan Richardson and Rev. Roger Davies

Materials Used:

Durham Stone from Staindrop Quarries.
The plaque bearing the names is of granite.

Blackhall History Group and Monk Hesleden Parish Council

How Money was Raised:

Monk Hesleden Parish Council and local Councillors’ funds in conjunction with Blackhall’s History Group.

Designed and built by John Peace, Park and Facilities Manager for Monk Hesleden Parish Council

Inscription:

Memorial Description:

Pillar of stone 32 inches square (81cms) surmounted by a cross.

The total height is 9 feet to top of cross (2.7m).

The whole stands on a paved base.

On the front of the pillar is a panel of black granite which bears the names in two columns in Roman upper case lettering.

Notes:

1. Four schoolchildren had relatives named on the memorial. They unveiled the memorial. Their names were Isabella Ramshaw, Daisy Elizabeth Forster, Kayleigh Lynn Davies, Lucy Hutton.

2. Bookmarks were given to schoolchildren and those who helped with the project.

3. Scrolls were presented to living relatives of the servicemen by Dorothy Hall, secretary of N.E.W.M.P.

4. A cake was made for the ceremony which carried a model of the memorial.
