that a man lay down his
life for his friends.

Memorial Description:

Plaque, very elaborate, with pillars at each side culminating in finials.

The rounded top has a bird – the Dove of Peace? – with leaves and fruit on either side.

The dedication is in the semicircle at the top.

The names are on the central panel, in two columns using gilded Roman capitals.

The names for 1939-45 are below these.

At the base is a shelf supported by a cherub’s head.

Below this is the quotation “Greater love . . .”
