This tablet is erected by the
Workmen and Officials
and inhabitants of
Easington Colliery
in honour of colleagues who served their King & Country
and to perpetuate the memory of their faithfulness
even unto death
in the Great War 1914-1919.

Memorial Description:

Plaque of popular design 36 inches high x 20 inches wide (91cms x 51cms).

There is a border of Greek key pattern culminating in roundels in the corners.

The centre panel has an arched top with a union flag in each spandrel.

The names are listed in three columns.

Lettering is in black sans serif capitals with some words in red.

Names:

153 names, ranks and service numbers.

Notes:

1        “The library contained a fine brass memorial tablet, on which were inscribed the names of the members who fell in the Great War.  It now transpires that during the fire Mr. William Mills, an official of the lodge, at great risk to himself, made a successful attempt to save the tablet.  It is little the worse and is at present safely housed in the Easington Comrades Club.”
