TRANSCRIPT NEEDED

Notes:

1. At the outbreak of war, there had been just over 600 employees, of whom 290 men joined the colours.

2. When the men first left, the Society set aside a sum of money to assist the wives and families. Altogether, it had subscribed £8,600 in addition to sending Christmas parcels and providing Christmas tree parties for the wives and children and employees. In total they had paid out £11,750, of which £10,570 had been in allowances.

3. The unveiling took place at the first of a series of three “Welcome Home” gatherings. 201 had returned, 50 were still serving.

4. All former employees were reinstated in their jobs, with the management taking every step it could to help those permanently disabled.
