Memorial Description:

Stained glass window, featuring Elijah offering up a sacrifice on Mount Carmel with the quotation “How long halt ye between two opinions”. (1 Kings 18:21)

Notes:

1. “When the church was erected, in 1904, it was not found possible, for want of funds, to raise the tower beyond the height of 40 feet (12m). According to plan, this should have been surmounted by a spire to a height of 85 feet (26m). Thus the church, from an architectural point of view is incomplete.” The proposal was to raise £1,500 to have the spire built as the war memorial.

  Lieut. Lancelot Rennison, Canadian Field Artillery, aged 25.

  Chief Engineer F.J. Liddell, lost at sea, aged 38.

  John S. Jones  Lee C.E.M.S., aged 55.

  Army Artificer Norman Jackson, lost at sea, aged 19.

  Gunner Albert H. Dunn, Tank Corps, aged 31.

  Pte. John T. Ford, Tank Corps, aged 28

  Pte. Thomas Stanley Relph, 12th N.F., aged 27.

The North Mail has slight variations:

 

  Lieut. A.J. Rowley instead of Albert G. Rowley

  J.F. Liddell instead of F.J. Liddell

             

  It also adds after the last name: “ . . .and J.S. Jones,

  late secretary of the church CEMS” (Church of England

  Men’s Society) although it is not made quite clear whether

  this is another name for a serviceman who fell.
