Unveiled February 23rd 1923 by Col. L. Robson C.M.G., D.S.O., D.L., dedicated by Canon Macdonald.

In memory of
the boys of this school
who died in the Great War 1914-1919.

Plaque, 41 inches high x  45 inches wide (104cms x 114cms)

There is an ornamental rounded centre top.

This is filled with a profile portrait set within a laurel wreath with flowers and fruits carved on either side.

A ribbon runs through with the words “Secondary School” incised.

The main central plaque is rectangular with a raised border.

The names are listed in three columns, the lettering is incised using sans serif capitals.

At centre bottom is a rectangular cartouche containing the dates.

1. This building was a private mansion on the outskirts of town. In 1914-18 it was the Secondary School. It became the Grammar School for Boys in October 1937 and is now a sixth form College.

2. The carving of a boy’s head and wild rose design symbolises the fact that the average age of the 45 boys commemorated was under 21 years of age.
