Memorial Description:

Triptych of popular design 33 inches high x 18 inches wide (84cms x 46cms).

A metal cross divides the memorial into sections.

The lettering is painted in black onto the wood.

The lettering “For God, King and Country” is in the gable top.

The words “Greater love hath no man than this” are in the top sections formed by the cross.

“Who dies if England Lives” are on the frame at the bottom.

All these phrases are in gold edged with black.

The names are in the two lower sections formed by the cross, hand painted in black.

Underneath is a trough for flowers.

Notes:

1. Made from wood from H.M.S. Britannia, broken up at Hughes Bolckow Yard at Blyth and used for many memorials similar to this.

2.  Other memorials had doors which opened, providing a triptych.  The doors on this memorial seem to have been removed. The hinge fastenings are still in place.
