Each name is in its own cartouche, the lettering and cartouche in raised Roman capitals.

A second bronze plaque 6 inches high x 36 inches wide (15cms x 91cms) on the front of the upper step carries the information from 1939-1945. The dates are in a cartouche in the middle, with the names raised in half relief in Roman capitals.

On each plaque the names are carried in two columns.

The cross is set into a narrow brick built enclosure.

b. 10 names, ranks and regiments, plus 1 who died of war wounds.
Another name added later.
See transcript.

Notes:

1. The name of a man who died before the 1939-45 war started was deemed not to be suitable for inclusion.

2. From Newbrough and Warden, in 1914-19, 201 men joined, and 30 died.

3. In 1952 the Royal British Legion were to be asked to keep the memorial tidy, costs being borne by the Newbrough and Warden Parish Councils.

4. In 1950 it was agreed that the memorial be brought forward to be in line with the Town Hall, that it be enclosed in a small bay, and a stone wall fence be erected in front of it. Local stone would be provided free by Mr. W.A. Benson.
