To the glory of God
and in perpetual memory of the following
communicant members of this church
who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War 1914-1919.

“Until the day dawns”.

This tablet is erected by members of this Church and friends.

Memorial Description:

Plaque of grey marble 24 inches high x 30 inches wide (61cms x 76cms) with shallow pointed top (total height 34 inches (86cms)) set on black marble pattress 6 inches wider (15cms) which echoes the shape.

On the gable top is a Maltese cross in half relief inside a circle with the background in red.

The lettering is in sans serif capitals with the quotation in italics.

Notes:

1. Sunderland Echo 17/07/1919 includes a notice which reads:-
“A window and tablet are to be placed in the Church bearing the names of all those who lived in the Parish(whether members of the church or not) and have given their lives. The parish includes the south of Dundas and Dock Street, the north of Millum Terrace, Charles and Howick Street and all the streets between.”

2. Sunderland Echo 25/03/1920 includes a notice which reads:-
“Dedication Service -Floral tributes are invited from Relatives and Friends. Photos of the parish tablet can be obtained from Mr F.W. Brown.”

3.Sunderland Echo 27/03/1920 includes another notice which reads:-
“Relatives and Friends are invited to bring to the unveiling of the War Memorial tablets photographs of those whose names are commemorated. These will be cared for by the Churchwardens.”
