Bronze plaque set in red brick wall.

Inscription:

To the Memory of those brave
men associated with the
County Council of Northumberland
who fell in the Great War 1914-1919.
For Their Country.

Memorial Description:

Plaque, about 30 inches high x 42 inches wide (76cms x 107cms).

It is set side by side with the plaque for 1939-45 with the County Shield between them.

There is a wreath raised in half relief in the top outer corners.

The names are listed in four columns in raised Roman capitals.

40 surnames and initials.

Notes:

1. From the 40 men whose names appear on the memorial, 22 were engaged in the education department, 12 were on the County Surveyor’s staff, four were employees at the Morpeth County Asylum, and two were attached to the department presided over by the Clerk of the County Council.

2. In 2009 the memorial was moved from near the pond to a place more accessible to the public near the Viking statue. It was rededicated there on November 11th, 2009. The costs were borne by Draeger UK.
