a. Unveiled 2nd June 1923 by Col. E.P.A. Riddell;
dedicated by Rev. H.H. Barff, vicar of Wylam.

Materials Used:

Granite with metal letters.

Who Commissioned:

War Memorial Committee

How Money was Raised:

Public subscription;
Duke of Northumberland allowed the use of the site.

Ownership and Maintenance: Handed over to the Parish Council at the unveiling ceremony.

Inscription:

In honour of
the men of this Parish
who fell in the Great Wars.

Memorial Description:

Cross of St.Cuthbert type decorated with Celtic pattern.

This is mounted on large rough square block which bears the inscriptions on its smoothed sides.

This in turn is mounted on two shallower stepped blocks.

The inscription is in sans serif capitals throughout, incised and filled with lead.

The whole is set in a concrete square surrounded by a plain iron fence with gate.

1. The word “Wars” was pluralized when two names from 1939-45 were added.
