Devonshire alabaster on Genoa green marble, with white marble slab.

Public subscription.

Sculptor, Artist or Designer:

Designed by Mr. W.J. Moscrop , architect, of Darlington;
made by Martyn & Co., Cheltenham.

Inscription:

To the glory of God
and in memory of the men of this Church
who fell for their country in the Great War 1914-18.

Dulce et decorum est
pro patria mori.

Memorial Description:

Plaque 92 inches high x 61 inches wide (2.34m x 1.55m) in Renaissance style with rounded top.

The white marble centre-piece also has a rounded top in which is a gold sunburst containing the monogram “IHS” also in gold.

The dedication is below this.

The names are listed in two columns.

All lettering is in Roman capitals.

The quotation is incised on the pattress underneath the plaque, with the St. Cuthbert’s Cross, all in gold.

Notes:

1. The son of the Rev. Canon David Walker is one of those named on the plaque.

2. At the unveiling service, a collection was taken for the St. Dunstan’s Home for Blinded Sailors and Soldiers.

3. The designer of the memorial, Mr. Moscrop, should have attended the service but was ill.
