Memorial Description:

Bookcase (27 inches wide x  21 inches deep (69cms x 53cms) with glass top.

On a sloping shelf inside is the Book of Remembrance.

A plaque 22 inches high x 12 inches wide (56cms high x 30cms) mounted on the front carries the dedication in raised Roman capitals.

The date 1939-1945 is also carved on the sides.

The whole stands on a pedestal 76 inches square (198cms) x 6 inches high (15cms).

The book itself is covered in red leather which has a gilded patterned border and lettering including the town badge.

One page bears the name of a man who died in the Falklands in 1982.

The names of each person are handwritten in black with the sphere of service in red.

Notes:

1. Bertha Gleghorn of the Metropolitan Police was the first Police Officer to be killed while on duty in the Second World War. She was killed in a bomb raid in London. See her Every Name A Story entry.
