Boulder on top of a squared stone base, total height 12 feet m(3.7m) sitting on a square coursed stone plinth.

There is a plaque, 12 inches high x 18 inches wide (30cms x 46cms), very plain, with a flower round the screw head in each corner.

The dedication is in sunken Roman lettering.

The Garden of Remembrance also contains trees, flower beds.

The whole is surrounded in a flagged area by a post and chain fence with a short path to the road, and an ornamental wrought iron gate with inscription.

Names:

None

Notes:

1. There are traces of another plaque on the opposite stone face. It seems that this was where the plaque was placed originally. However, alterations in the immediate surroundings meant that the panel had to be removed and placed on another face.

2. There was little enthusiasm for this memorial as a plaque had already been placed in St. Mary’s Church.

3. There was also a gun placed in Galgate, which disappeared.

4. Restoration work in 2009 was carried out with the aid of a grant from the War Memorials Trust by P. & S. Coverdale Masonry Contractors Ltd.
