On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Third Engineer John Leo Finlayson, serving on M.V. Darlington Court (London) with the Merchant Navy who died 20/05/1941.

The son of James Finlayson, and of Elizabeth Ann Finlayson, of Whitley Bay, Northumberland.

In Whitley Bay Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In remembrance of
James Finlayson
1877-1942

and his son John Leo Finlayson
lost at sea through enemy action
1911-1941

Also Elizabeth Anne
beloved wife of the above James
1878-1965
R.I.P.

John Leo Finlayson is remembered at Whitley Bay on W84.01 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
