On Plymouth Naval Memorial is the name of Lieutenant (E) Alan Southern Watkins serving on H.M.S. Ark Royal with the Royal Navy who died 19/12/1941.

The son of Harry Baskerville Watkins and Patience Watkins and the husband of Marjorie Ethel Watkins, of Aston, Hertfordshire. He had gained a B.Sc. (Durham).

In Whitley Bay Cemetery is a family headstone which includes on a kerb:

Lost at sea through
enemy action Dec. 1941

Alan Southern Watkins is not remembered on a local War Memorial but is included in our List of Ships’ Crews.
