In Whitley Bay (Hartley South) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Of your charity
pray for the repose of the souls of
Jane Elizabeth
Beloved wife of James Hughes
died 4th April 1940 aged 74 years

And Thomas Edward their honoured son
died 13 June 1940 at Dunkirk aged 24 years
He gave his all for England

Also the above James Hughes
died 31st Dec. 1950 aged 70 years.
