In Tynemouth (Preston) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Lieutenant William Rogers serving on H.M.S. Yeoman with the Royal Naval Reserve who died 16/11/1944.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
William Rogers, Lt., R.N.R.
who died on active service
16th Nov. 1944 aged 55 years.

Also his beloved wife
Christina Y. Rogers,
who died January 16th 1947, aged 50 years.

William Rogers was the son of William Yeoman Rogers and Jemima Rogers, of North Shields; husband of Christina Yvonne Rogers, of North Shields.

His father’s middle name was “Yeoman”. It seems remarkable that the son should serve on H.M.S. Yeoman.
