In Tynemouth (Preston) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Skipper John Normandale, serving on S.S. Langley Castle with the Mercantile Marine who died 21/08/1916.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
John,
dearly loved husband of
Theresa Normandale
who died Aug. 21st 1916,
aged 60 years
Asleep in Jesus.

Also his beloved wife
Theresa,
who died Sept. 26th 1948,
aged 82 years.

Also Alfred, beloved son of the above
died March 5th 1921
aged 28 years.

John Robert, eldest beloved son
died Sept. 28th 1934, aged 45 years.

Also John, their son-in-law
and beloved husband of

He was the husband of Theresa Normandale, of 22, Sibthorpe Street, North Shields
