On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Able Seaman Lewis Anderson Peak Mills, serving on S.S. Birtley (Newcastle) with the Mercantile Marine who died 03/01/1918.

In Tynemouth (Preston) Cemetery is a headstone which reads:

In
loving
memory
of
Louis
son of
Alexander and Rebecca Mills
who was lost at sea January 4th 1918
aged 19 years.

Also John Robert,
Son of the above

(the rest is obscured by foliage)

The CWGC entry gives his name as “Lewis”

He was the son of Alexander and Rebecca Mills, of 7, North King Street, North Shields.

Louis Anderson Peak Mills is remembered at North Shields on N34.18 and N34.77, at Tynemouth on T36.14 page 19 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
