In Preston Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of

beloved wife of
Robert S. Charlton
who died July 1st 1941
aged 60 years.

Also their son
Leslie Guildford,
lost at sea with
H.M.T. Robert Bowen
Feb. 9th 1940 in his 20th year.

Also the said
Robert S. Charlton
who died June 27th 1953
aged 76 years.

He was the son of Robert Spence Charlton and Agnes Ann Charlton, of North Shields
