On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Fireman John Alderson, serving on S.S. Heworth (Newcastle upon Tyne) with the Merchant Navy who died 15/07/1940.

In Preston Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Treasured memories
of a dear husband
and father
John Alderson
15th July 1940
aged 48 years

also Edith dearly
beloved wife of the above
died 2nd Jan. 1964
aged 65 years

also William his father
died 2nd Jan. 1949
aged 78 years.

He  was the son of William and Selina Alderson and the husband of Edith Alderson, of North Shields.

John Alderson is remembered in our List of Ships’ Crews.
