On Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of P/LX 28815 Assistant Steward William Davies, serving on H.M.S. Eagle with the Royal Navy who died 11/08/1942.

MISSING FROM H.M.S. EAGLE
Mr. Alfred Davies, of 215 Stockton Road, West Hartlepool, has received intimation that his brother, William Davies, assistant steward on H.M.S. Eagle, is missing, presumed killed.

Steward Davies, who was 28 years of age and unmarried, formerly resided with his brother and sister-in-law at 3 Sheriff Street. He was a prominent member of Elwick Road Old Boys’ Association, was elected to the executive committee in 1933, and became hon. secretary to the Association in 1937, a position which he still held. He was closely identified with the Drama Club of the Association. being its secretary from 1933 to 1936 and hon. producer from 1933. He was also a keen member of the tennis club and was member of the E.R.O.B.A. team which competed in the ???. Prior to joining the Navy, he was a member of the clerical staff of the Gas and Water Company.
