The son of James W. Dawson and Jane Dawson, of Ashington, Northumberland. His sister and brother, Dora Rhoda and Leslie, also died on service.

S.S. Rosalia was torpedoes and sunk in the Caribbean with the loss of 23 of her crew of 36.
