On Lowestoft Naval Memorial is the name of LT/JX.405377 Ordinary Telegraphist James Craig, serving on H.M. Trawler Ganilly with the Royal Naval Patrol Service who died 05/07/1944.

James was the son of James and Mary Eleanor of Newcastle upon Tyne.

He died aboard H.M. Trawler Ganilly.

At 08.21hrs on 5 July 1944, H.M.S. Ganilly (T367) was torpedoed and sunk by German U-Boat U-390, while escorting convoy EBC-30, about 12 miles east south east off Cap Barfleur (Utah Beach, Normandy). The commander, two officers and thirty-six ratings were lost. Some hours later U-390 was located and sunk by H.M.S. Tavy and H.M.S. Wanderer.

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle 05/07/1945 gives his home address as 55 Rutland Avenue Walkergate.
