On Lee on Solent Memorial is the name of FAA/FX. 76712 Air Fitter Arthur Mountain serving on H.M.S. Glorious with the Royal Navy who died 08/06/1940.

The son of Frederick Arthur and Violet Sabina Mountain, of North Shields.

Arthur Mountain was born 1920. In 1939 parents Frederick Arthur born 1886 a Railway Clerk and Violet Sabina born 1887 were living at 67 Sandringham Gardens.

The Shields Daily News 25/10/1941 reports:-
Shields Air Fitter Presumed Lost
Official notification has been received by Mr and Mrs F. A. Mountain of 67 Sandringham Gardens, North Shields, that their son Air-Fitter Arthur Mountain, 19 who was reported missing in June 1940 is now presumed lost. A native of Hull. Air-Fitter Mountain was educated at the Tynemouth Municipal High School and joined the Air Force on leaving school. He was transferred to the Fleet Air Arm and was serving in H.M.S. Glorious when he was reported musing.

His brother Frederick Mountain also died in WW2.

Arthur Mountain is remembered at North Shields on N34.09,  at Tynemouth on T36.27 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
