Edward was born in the first quarter of 1896 at Newcastle upon Tyne, the son of Catherine and the late George. He was the husband of the late Barbara (nee Raper) whom he married in the third quarter of 1917 at Gateshead, County Durham and who died in the fourth quarter of 1920.

Edward died from pulmonary tuberculosis.
