On Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of 1481EA Engine Room Artificer William Scott, serving on H.M.S. Clan McNaughton with the Royal Naval Reserve who died 03/02/1915.

A Marine Engineer, he was Initiated on the 22nd March 1912; Passed 29th December 1913 and Raised on the 26th January 1914. He died on the 3rd February 1915 aged 29 and is Remembered on the Chatham Naval Memorial, Kent 14. H.M.S. Clan McNaughton was a Clan Line passenger cargo ship (4985 GRT) registered at Glasgow launched in 1911. She began war service as an auxiliary armed cruiser and was last heard of on the 3rd February 1915 off the north coast of Ireland. Wreckage was found in the sea and she was presumed lost during severe gales and sunk with the loss of 20 Officers and 261 Ratings. No U boat claimed to have sunk her.

William Scott is remembered in the Masonic Roll of Honour 1914-18 (London) and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
