Abraham  Studholme

Every Name a Story

On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Fireman and Trimmer Abraham Studholme, serving on S.S. Empire Lakeland (South Shields) with the Merchant Navy who died 11/03/1943.

He was the husband of W. Studholme, of Felling, Co. Durham.

In  Heworth (St. Mary) Churchyard is a headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
David Studholme
died Jan. 22nd 1939, aged 65 years.

Also Emma Studholme
dearly loved wife of the above
died Aug. 27th 1951, aged 78 years.

Also Abraham son of the above
lost at sea March 11th 1943,
aged 27 years.

Heslop’s Local Advertiser 15/03/1947 and 17/04/1948 both carry a notice which reads:
Studholme, Felling, Abraham, Merchant Navy, presumed drowned 11th March 1943. (1947 reads 1947)

There were no survivors from the sinking of the S.S. Empire Lakeland.

Abraham Studholme is remembered at Felling on F32.10 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
