He was the son of Joseph Eskdale Arthur and Edith Lilian Arthur, of Monkseaton, Northumberland.

He was a member of the 8th Whitley Bay Scouts and his name appears in the Scout Roll of Honour 1939-1945..

John Eskdale Arthur is remembered  at Monkseaton on M15.05, at Whitley Bay on W84.01 panel 11, W84.05 and W84.17  and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
