He was killed with 16 other crew members when the vessel was in a collision near Longstone Light.

The Walsall Observer 30/05/1942 reports:-
SHEEDY.—Loving memories of Mother, passed away Empire day. 1927; also our nephews who were lost at sea, James Barrett April 5 1942; Jack Condrey March 19 1940.
“With pride and sorrow we remember.”—Sadly missed —Jack. Minnie, Kathleen, Tom, Laurence and Jim.
