In Preston Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Skipper Thomas Randal Agnew serving with the Royal Naval Reserve who died 20/01/1917.

The headstone reads:-

In loving memory of my dear husband
Thomas Randal Agnew, Skipper, R.N.R.
accidentally drowned in the service of his country
January 20th 1917, aged 24 years.
Great grandson of the late Captain Hubbard of North Shields

and his dear wife Elizabeth
died March 4th 1974 aged 81 years.
