In Schiermonnikoog (Vredenhof) Cemetery, The Netherlands is the Commonwealth War Grave of 912606 Sergeant (Pilot) John Nicholas Bailey Tate, serving with the 83 Squadron Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 25/07/1941.

The son of Thomas Bailey Tate, C.S.I., and Decima Tate, of Alnmouth, Northumberland.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:
Sergeant Tate, of 83 squadron, was killed when Handley Page Hampden I AD835 AL-G was shot down by a night-fighter. It had been on a bombing mission to Hannover, and was shot down at 03.57 by the Luftwaffe pilot Lt. Lothar Linke, of II./NJG1. The pilot of the Hampden survived to be taken prisoner, but the other three crew, including Sgt Tate, were killed.
