In Rhodes War Cemetery, Greece is the Commonwealth War Grave of Lieutenant James Bain, serving with the H.M. Motor Launch 579, Royal Navy who died 26/10/1943.

In Christ Church churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
Rebecca
dear wife of the late James Bain
died April 26th 1957 aged 75 years.

Also James
son of the above, Lieut. R.N.V.R.
lost at sea October 26th 1942 aged 31 years.

The Scout Roll of Honour 1939-45 lists him as being a member of the 1st Tyne Sea Scout Group.

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle 05/11/1943 reports with a photograph:-
Lieutenant James Bain, R.N.V.R., husband of Mrs. S. Bain, of West Monkseaton and elder son of Mrs. and the late James Bain, of 21. Weardale Avenue, Walker, has been killed in action.

James Bain is remembered in our List of Ships’ Crews.
