Every Name a Story

On the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, France is the name of Lieutenant George Bertrand Sibbit, serving with the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 27/09/1918.

The son of Thomas H. and Janet E. F. Sibbit, of 26, Rothbury Terrace, Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne. He was formerly with the  22nd Battalion as Serjeant. He had previously been wounded.

John Hulme says: Sometimes the name is spelt with two Ts at the end, sometimes he is called Bert and in one case he is Geo. C, but it is the same man.

Lieutenant George Bertrand Sibbit was brother to Major Henry Sibbit.
