The husband of Alice Perry Atkinson, of Fenham, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Matthew was born on 4th December 1907 at Newburn. He is recorded on a passenger list for the RMT Mauretania, as a distressed British seaman, who was landed at the Port of Liverpool on 13th August 1943, along with a number of other seamen. The Cunard Liner was being used at that time as a troop carrier. At the time of the listing he was living at 21 Wentworth Place, Newcastle. It is not clear what happened to Matthew, but S.S. Gleniffer continued in service until being scrapped in 1947.
