On Lowestoft Naval Memorial is the name of LT/X 3135U Engineman Joseph Brindley serving on H.M. Trawler Ebor Wyke with the Royal Naval Reserve (Patrol Service) who died 02/05/1945.

The son of Thomas and Mary Ann Brindley, of Newcastle upon Tyne and the husband of Elizabeth Jane Brindley, of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Ron Carson has provided the following:

Joseph was born 1903 at Newcastle upon Tyne, the son of Thomas and Mary Ann.

Joseph served with the Royal Naval Reserve (Patrol Service) and was a crew member aboard H.M. Trawler Ebor Wyke. The ship was built by Cochrane & Sons of Selby and was completed in 1929. Joseph died on 2 May 1945, aged 42, when the ship was hit by two torpedoes from U.979 off Hrafneyri Light, 7 miles north of Skagi, Iceland, with only one survivor of a crew of 24 men.

Joseph Brindley is remembered at Byker on B95.17 and B95.26 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
