On the Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Second Engineer Charles Francis Robert Fell, serving on S.S. San Zeferino with the Mercantile Marine who died 26/09/1917.

Charles Francis Robert was the husband of Constance Fell, of Briar Cottage, Northumberland Avenue, Gosforth. He had been born at Durham.

He was born at Durham. A Marine Engineer residing at Bishop Auckland he was Initiated on the 15th October 1913; Passed 10th April 1916 and Raised on the 7th May 1916. He died on the 26th September 1917 aged 32. The husband of Constance Fell of Briar Cottage, Northumberland Avenue, Gosforth he is Remembered on the Tower Hill Memorial, London.

The SS San Zeferino, ship number 136653, (6430 grt) was an Oil Tanker built by Palmers of Hebburn on Tyne in 1914 and owned by the Eagle Oil Company of London. She was damaged by the German U Boat U33, on a voyage from Avonmouth to Tampico with the loss of three lives.

The attack on the San Zeferino happened on September 8th 1915, so Second Engineer Fell was not victim to that attack.
