On Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of 6094S Stoker George Gerrish, serving on H.M.S. Indefatigable with the Royal Naval Reserve who died 31/05/1916.

The son of George and Emily Gerrish, of 36, Station Road, Easington Colliery and the husband of Maggie Crabtree (formerly Gerrish), of Sea Side Lane, Easington Colliery, Co. Durham.

His brother Charles John also died on the Indefatigable.

George Gerrish is remembered at Easington Colliery on E52.01 and E52.03, in a List of Local Men Lost in the Battle of Jutland 1916 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
