In Klein-Vierstraat British Cemetery, Belgium is the Commonwealth War Grave of 30221 Private Fred Hilton Harper, serving with the 20th Battalion  Durham Light Infantry who died 31/01/1917.

The husband of Alice Gwendoline Isabel Harper, of 6, Agna Terrace, Newbiggin by the Sea, Northumberland.

The Sunderland Echo and Shields Gazette 13/03/1917 reports:
Information has been received by Mrs. Harper, Shakespeare Street, Southwick on Wear, that her husband, Fred Hilton Harper, was killed in action on January 31st. The deceased soldier is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Harper of Southwick.

The Sunderland Echo 15/02/1917 reports:
A memorial service was held in Southwick Parish Church last night for the late Fred Hilton Harper, of Southwick, who was killed in action on Jan. 31st last. The Rector (Rev. J.R. Shortt) conducted the service, and a large congregation was present to pay its last tribute of respect to the deceased soldier. Private Harper was 23 years of age.
