On the Helles Memorial Turkey (including Gallipoli) is the name of 13612 Private Charles Browell Stonehouse, serving with the 6th (Service) Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, who died 09/08/1915.

Charles Browell Stonehouse was born on the 2nd January 1878, at Bishopwearmouth, the seventh and youngest son of John James Stonehouse, a Bricklayer from Sunderland, and his wife Ann, daughter of Ann Browell of Sunderland.

Charles was educated at Bishopwearmouth School, and was employed at Hylton Colliery. Charles married at Southwick on Wear on the 31st July 1904, Ada Jane, (30 Nelson Street, Southwick on Wear, Sunderland), daughter of John Griffin of Sunderland, they had seven children Charles Browell born 15th January 1909, Thomas born 26th February 1914, Margaret born 22nd May 1905, Christine born 19th July 1906, Lilian born November 1907, Annie born 22nd August 1910 and Ada Jane born 19th May 1915.

He enlisted on the 16th October 1914, and was trained at Grantham. He was sent to the Dardanelles on the 6th August 1915, but was killed three days later in action on the 9th August.
