In St Cuthert’s R.C. Church Old Elvet is a plaque which reads:-

The organ
was electrified
in memory of
Alex. Lowery
R.A.F.
who was killed
in a flying accident
21st July 1939.
R.I.P.

This organ is on the NPOR register as No. R00616.

The plaque is now in the entrance lobby.

Lowery – Whinney Hill, Durham killed in air accident 21st July aged 19 years, James Alexander, dear son of Alexander and Ethel Lowery. Reception of cortege at St Cuthbert’s Church Tuesday evening 10 o’clock. Interment from residence Wednesday 2 pm Red Hills Cemetery. On whose soul sweet Jesus have mercy.

Aircraftman James Alexander Lowery, a wireless operator was involved in a flying accident in Somerset.

There is no CWGC entry for Alex Lowery as his death occurred before the start of the 1939-45 War.
