The son of Robert Ernest and Minnie Sturdy, of Cresswell, Northumberland.

In Cresswell (St. Bartholomew’s) Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

died 8th December 1972 aged 90 years.

died 9th March 1954 aged 57 years.
